We’re coming…

…to Germany! Flights are booked and preparations are in full swing. If the Lord wills, we will make our “ascension” by plane through the clouds, just on time before “Ascension Day” and land in Frankfurt on May 25th. Unless Christ appears again on the clouds on the final day of ascension (1 Thess 4:17)! Here we share a few highlights of the last months. More to come in Germany!

In the past months…

…we were able to make contact with a few more AmaZioni in our city. Timon was able to introduce our work to a number of pastors/bishops and build relationships with them. We realized how many AmaZioni churches exist in just one small part of the city. Our offer for Bible training and courses is received with mixed feelings. One the one hand, people are hungry for education of all kinds. On the other hand we’ve seen cults and self-appointed preachers creeping into the townships, manipulating people and taking what little money they have out of their pockets. We pray that churches open their hearts to the gospel and that we can build up trust with them. This shows the great need once again: people need to hear the true gospel and be matured in it!

Sowing and watering

God spoke to us through the parable of the sower (Mark 4) and the words of Paul in 1 Corinthians 3:6-7: “I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God has been making it grow.  So neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow.” So we find ourselves on a very large and uncultivated field. We are plowing and sowing the seeds of the gospel and it falls on all kinds of soil. But God will not let His Word return empty and He will make things grow.

Like Apollos, we are already watering the young plants that are sprouting. The Bible studies in Vuyani’s house are a great encouragement, also for ourselves. We are learning a lot about the Xhosa culture and the circumstances of the AmaZioni. Over Easter there are often large services at which several congregations come together. On Good Friday, the “7 last sayings of Jesus on the cross” are traditionally preached. Timon was also invited to one of these services. Here are a few impressions:

Birthday Season

We’re also back into our annual children’s birthday season. Three of our four kids have already celebrated their birthdays. We are very grateful they have all found friends and familiar faces to play with. Our two oldest, David and Jael, tell us how they look forward to the sunday school every week where they have grown fond of the children and teachers.

Prayer Items:

  • We give thanks for new contacts among the AmaZioni
  • We pray that the seed sown will fall on fruitful soil and more churches become open to the true gospel
  • Pray for good nerves during all the preparations for Germany, packing and travelling and for good sleep!

We look forward to seing many of you in person and to tell of what God has done!
